just existing
I exist...
snow flitting down
Kobayashi Issa, 1805
If you would rather meet silence, if you’d rather have a short rest, to calm down unnoticed in the midst of the confusion of this
overstrung world, please go and see Ildikó Felicides’ exhibition At Every Step. By rest I do not mean having an easy time, I mean an
understanding of the strength of rumination, with the surprise of a revelation, a healthy urge to hunt for the meanings of vanishing
lights and shades, a kind of thinking.
This confession relates the joy of being on the road, searching and finding, discovering volatile experiences, and the pain of
absence. We observe the magic by which hidden correlations and photographic paper with the help of composition give birth to
meaning, showing the way simple things become part of a fable.
This exhibition offers not only photographs, but haikus as well. The relationship of image and poetry results in new meanings,
not possible without the presence of both media. By joining their effects, they either enhance or surprise or deepen each other’s
meanings, emotional or spiritual contents.
If you open the door to the gallery and enter the world of photographs and haikus, you do not only face an exhibition, but have a
chance to steal a glance into the interior of things, into the depths. Well, if you can still understand silence.
Gabriella Csizek, curator

I would like to thank Erzsébet Sárközi for the editing the haikus.
