„With me, time stands, You cannot be left out either.”

Gene
/a confession to the images of an exhibition/

…I was born in Lengyeltóti in 1948. My mother wanted me to become a teacher or a doctor; I secretly decided to be a photographer…in the end, I became KATI BARICZ.
With my miracle machine, I recorded a variety of subjects, especially people, to my pleasure.
Well, not everyone or anyone, only those I liked.
This is (sur)realism filtered by and through me.
I’ve been recording the world according to me for almost fifty years now.
Last Christmas something whispered to me:
You will not be alone over the holidays; take pictures of children.
I listened to this voice. And, I became a grandma by the spring of 2009.

…how does the face of your child, captured by me, remain and leave a recorded mark for the future?
My photos are simple; they look almost like the ID pictures from long ago the masters of the profession took with utmost care. My models look into the lens solemnly, their gaze is perplexing. They are faces for eternity. You may not even be aware of or think to preserve this face of your child. Time was stopped for a moment on these images by a lady with grizzled hair.
The photos are the unforgettable imprints of our time spent together.
A photo portrait. A re-presentation. Not real, as the real one is alive and changes perpetually and constantly.
I wonder how they are going to see themselves in the course of time?!

The majority of traditional techniques are swept away by the contemporary world of pixels and, along with that, we are compelled to even hand over and assign our soul to everything that’s new.
Are we destroying? Are we evolving? Are we suffering? Are we forgetting? Are we in a rush? Are we just racing along?...do we not want to do these or anything at all?
Man – humanity has been acting so from time immemorial, on different wave-lengths at different times.

I’m a traditionalist. I hold on to things. This is how I’m put together, these are my genes, the genes I am. I’m embracing it.

Message:
Grandma is doing fine.
Grandma is happy.
Grandma is still creating
…and hopes
that her work is not only for her liking.
