Az emberi identitás megmutatásának őszinte vizuális dokumentációját választva Álovits Bálint 2019-es projektjében a londoni Central Saint Martin’s művészeti egyetem hallgatóiról, oktatóiról és alkalmazottairól készített portrésorozatot. Két hét alatt 355 karakter portréját készítette el az iskola területén a random rövid időkre felállított standokon. A személyigazolványok, útlevelek, jogosítványok személytelen és normatív képi világát idéző portrék antropológiai alapossággal elkészített katalógusszerűen rendszerezett képet adtak egy napjainkban létező, de állandóan változó neo-törzsről.

Álovits Bálint fotográfia szakon szerzett BA diplomát a Budapesti Metropolitan Egyetemen 2014-ben, majd 2019-ben a londoni Central Saint Martins Egyetemen kapta meg mesterdiplomáját, kortárs fotográfia és filozófiai tanulmányokból.

Kezdeti munkáira nagy hatással volt a modern építészet és a Düsseldorfi Fotóiskola. Legutóbbi munkáiban a fotográfia mint médium hitelességét, annak a valóság-reprezentációját és határait vizsgálja. Ezek mellett az experimentális fotó és a fotográfia fuzionálásának lehetőségeit kutatja.

2018-ban, majd egy évvel később is kiállított a Tate Exchangen a Tate Modernben, Londonban.

Munkáit számos csoportos kiállításokon mutatták be Budapesten, Londonban, New Yorkban, Detroitban, Milánóban és Santiagóban. 2019-ben Budapesten a TOBE Galériában, 2020-ban a londoni Sketch Gallery-ben volt önálló kiállítása.

Számos nemzetközi publikációja jelent meg online és nyomtatott magazinokban, többek között az Architectural Digestben, a designboomban, a Vogue Germanyben és a Photo London Magazinban.

Budapesten él és dolgozik.

In his 2019 project, Bálint Álovits opted for an honest visual documentation of human identity when he created a series of portraits of the students, faculty and staff of Central Saint Martin’s, a college of the University of the Arts London. In the course of two weeks, he took 355 portraits of individuals on the school grounds in booths set up for random short periods. The portraits, which bring to mind the impersonal and normative representation mode of ID cards, passports and driving licences, make up what seems a catalogue of anthropological exhaustiveness, which offers a systematic view of a current but ever-changing neo-tribe.

Bálint Álovits earned his BA in Photography from the Budapest Metropolitan University in 2014, and his MA in Contemporary Photography and Philosophy from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, in 2019.

His early career was considerably influenced by modern architecture and the Düsseldorf School of Photography. His recent work explores the authenticity of photography as a medium, its representation of reality and its limits. In addition, he studies the possibilities of fusing experimental and conventional photography.

He exhibited at the Tate Exchange, a programme of Tate Modern, London, in 2018 and 2019.

He has presented works at numerous group exhibitions in Budapest, London, New York, Detroit, Milan and Santiago. He had a solo exhibition at TOBE Gallery in Budapest in 2019, and at Sketch Gallery in London in 2020.

He has published extensively in such international online and print magazines as Architectural Digest, designboom, Vogue Germany and Photo London Magazine.

He lives and works in Budapest.
