Held in mid-April, the World Press Photo Awards conferred its first prize in the Environment category to Hungarian photographer Esther Horvath. The photographer, who currently lives in Bremen, has been documenting the environmental changes in the Arctic region and participated in numerous research expeditions over the last five years. She is genuinely concerned with the issues of climate change and nature conservation, and also, importantly, she is the first Hungarian woman to get a prize at the World Press Photo Awards.

The online photography magazine Punkt presents – in Hungarian and English – international developments in in the field of photographic art, focusing on accomplishments in Hungary and in other parts of Central and Eastern Europe.

Punkt supports those aspirations and endeavours that seek, in a progressive and critical way, to promote Hungarian and international accomplishments in photography, including artworks, exhibitions, albums, and theoretical or historical works.

Punkt’s point of view/approach, however, goes beyond photography alone, extending to the various branches of photography and the visual arts as well as to the relationship between photography and film.

Punkt’s aim is to explore photography based on professional criteria and in a straightforward manner, thereby offering quality content not only to photography professionals but also to those with an interest in the subject matter. Concurrently, it seeks a dialogue with international photographers, artists and institutions.
