A kortárs magyar fotóművészet technikai kísérleteinek vegyszerszagú laborvilágában tovább kalandozva Dobokay Máté minimalista alkotásaihoz érkezünk meg. A tiszta ezüst, amelynek fényérzékeny vegyületei nagy jelentőséggel bírtak a fényképezés feltalálásában, valamint a fényképek elkészítésében Dobokay Máté legújabb kísérleteiben központi szerepet játszik. A laborhulladékokból kémiai úton kinyert ezüst különféle felületeken – cinklemezen, papíron és üvegen – nyer új életet. A végeredmény nem a hagyományos értelemben vett fénykép, ezzel magára az anyagra hívja fel a figyelmet az alkotó.

Dobokay Máté a Kaposvári Egyetem Fotográfia BA szakán végzett.

A fotográfia médiumát analizálja, határait feszegeti. Alapkérdéseiből és jellemző matériáiból kiindulva kísérletet tesz annak megfejtésére, elemeire szedi és kapcsolódási pontjait keresi más médiumokkal.

Munkái számos csoportos kiállításon voltak láthatók Magyarországon, többek között a Ludwig Múzeumban, a Kassák Múzeumban és a MODEMben is. 2016-ban részt vett New Yorkban az MPACT: Abstraction & Experiment in Hungarian Photography című kiállításon.

2017-ben egyéni kiállítása volt a Várfok Project Roomban, 2019-ben a Robert Capa Kortárs Fotográfiai Központban, az acb Attachmentben, 2021-ben a Pincében és legutóbb a párizsi Bigaignon Galériában.

Művei megtalálhatóak a Ferenczy Múzeumi Centrum és MODEM Modern és Kortárs Művészeti Központ gyűjteményeiben. Legutóbb Prágában a Center For Contemporary Art Futura és a párizsi Cité International des Arts kiállításán mutatták be munkáit, emellett Párizsban művészeti rezidencia programokon is szerepelt.

Budapesten él és dolgozik. Magyarországon az acb Galéria (Budapest) képviseli.

MÁTÉ DOBOKAY

Wandering further into the chemical-smelling world of technical experiments in the labs of contemporary Hungarian photographers, we arrive at the minimalist works of Máté Dobokay. Pure silver, whose light-sensitive compounds are key to the analogue process, plays a central role in Máté Dobokay’s latest experiments. The silver reclaimed from spent darkroom chemicals finds a new life on a variety of surfaces: zinc plates, paper and glass. As the end result is not a photograph in the traditional sense, the artist draws the attention to the material itself.

Máté Dobokay received his BA in Photography from Kaposvár University.

He analyses and pushes the boundaries of the medium of photography. Starting from its basic questions and characteristic materials, he attempts to understand it, break it down into its elements and look for its links with other media.

His works have been featured at numerous group exhibitions in Hungary, including at Ludwig Museum, Kassák Museum and MODEM. In 2016 he participated in the exhibition MPACT: Abstraction & Experiment in Hungarian Photography in New York.

In 2017 he had a solo exhibition at Várfok Project Room, in 2019 at the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Centre, at acb Attachment, in 2021 at Pince, and most recently at the Bigaignon Gallery in Paris.

His works are in the collections of the Ferenczy Museum Centre and the MODEM Centre for Modern and Contemporary Art. His most recent exhibitions were at the Center for Contemporary Art Futura in Prague and the Cité International des Arts in Paris. In the latter city he has also participated in artist residency programmes.

He lives and works in Budapest. In Hungary he is represented by acb Gallery.
